Employee Promotion!
We have an exciting new promotion to inform everyone about. John MacDonald is a Halifax employee who has been working with SSI since 2006. In 2006 Source was primarily focused on nightclub and bar security. John was hired on because he had experience providing this type of security in the past, so it wasn’t JUST due to his clear ability to intimidate those who may have had a little too much fun that evening. John quickly moved up to supervisor at nightclubs managing a crew of 8 to 10 guards. In a short time John’s interest in the company and his own ambition moved him from Guard Supervisor to Event Supervisor managing an even larger crew. Last Summer John was given another promotion to Operations Support for Mainland Nova Scotia. He worked closely with the Operations Manager and soon began gaining even more responsibility.
John has just recently been awarded yet another promotion to Operations Manager for Mainland Nova Scotia! John says, “I have learned more about client relations from Ron and from my peers at Source then I think a lot of people would learn in a lifetime, so for that I consider myself lucky!” I asked John if he had any advice for those who want to move through the ranks, “Work hard, don’t let your emotions get the best of you at work or home, stay focused and keep your expectations of yourself higher then you would of anyone else. Be open to both positive and negative criticism and do your best to be the best!”
Ron says of John, “John is a great employee with the company, his ambition, leadership, dedication and ability to work well with people have been key to his success. I’ve seen John experience tremendous growth both personally and professionally and I’m excited to see what the future holds for him. The sky is the limit!”
Congratulations John!
Security to the Stars!
As we mentioned in last month’s newsletter SSI is providing security for the 35th Toronto International Film Festival which begins on September 9, 2010. This is an 11 day festival featuring 300 Canadian Films!
TIFF’s main goal is to successfully promote the sales and recognition of talented Canadian Artists in hopes of gaining international exposure. Because of the Canadian talent showcased in previous years, every year seems to bring with it bigger names! This year some of the stars to be in attendance at the movie screenings are names like; Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, Robert Redford, Rachel Weiz, Robin Wright-Penn and Nicole Kidman! SSI will be there every step of the way providing top notch security! We have secured contracts for high end parties and movie screenings. This is our first major project for Ontario and we believe it is a great way to gain a lot of recognition in hopes of securing even more contracts in this region. We send good luck to our fine guards in Ontario and know you’ll do a fantastic job!
Remembering Johntia
Johntia Whynder was killed in a car accident on October 29, 2005. He was a good friend to Ron and had worked with Source since its early beginnings. He is remembered as being a great guy who had a good sense of humour and a big heart. Johntia left behind a beautiful little boy named Leshawn. Ron has become actively involved in Leshawn’s life and had recently had the pleasure of celebrating with him his 5th birthday. Leshawn is growing up to be a smart, kind little man his father would be proud of. Johntia will always be greatly missed but we are lucky to see his memory kept alive through Leshawn.
CATSA
CATSA stands for Canadian Air Transport Security Authority. This is a Crown corporation which is responsible for the security screening at the 89 designated airports in Canada. To be able to provide security for any airport in Canada it is necessary to be “CATSA Certified”.
This undertaking has been a time-consuming project which required a lot of help from many different members of the team. The process involves a couple of different stages before being certified. The first step was the approval of our initial proposal. We were extremely pleased when this first stage was approved but nervous about the next one, an on-site audit. This took weeks of preparation and hard work but it was well worth it. The on-site audit went very well and we are happy to say we are now CATSA Certified which means we can now bid on all contracts for security screening at any Canadian airport!
Congratulations to all those involved, especially Dave Ring who did a finer then fine job managing this project;)
Congratulations to Joel Paulin who has been named the September Employee of the Month. Joel has shown tremendous bravery in the face of an extreme situation. He has gone well above his job description and is an excellent candidate for this award. Check out the write up on the website to gain a better understanding of Joel’s recent experiences.
